Around the SEC

The Dawgs enter their bye week, and after their performance in LSU, it couldn’t come at a better time.

With Georgia off for a week, let’s focus on what the rest of the league is doing leading up to the October 20th slate of games.

Here’s what’s happening around the SEC:

  • Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exited the Tide’s game against Missouri after re-aggravating his sprained knee. The injury doesn’t appear serious and Tagovailoa appears good to go against Tennessee this weekend.
  • LSU was fined $100,000 for storming the field after the win against Georgia. Correct me if I’m wrong in the comments, but I believe that was the first time since Colorado in 2010 that a team has rushed the field against the Dawgs. Which, looking back, it’s hilarious anyone would rush the field against the 2010 Dawgs.
  • After a heated exchange after the Florida vs. Vanderbilt game, the SEC will not hand out discipline to Florida coach Dan Mullen or Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason.
  • Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf is out for the year with a neck injury. Here’s hoping he has a full recovery from this injury.

Until next time… GO DAWGS!!!

Georgia Overview

Georgia was not ready for what LSU had to offer, getting beat in every facet of the game in a 36-16 resounding defeat.

The Dawgs have a bye week to sit and think about what just happened.

Movers

Fell Out: #16 Miami, #19 Colorado, #21 Auburn

Newcomers: #19 Iowa, #24 Michigan State, #25 Washington State

Overrated

#15 Washington

The Huskies have had two chances to prove themselves on a big stage. Both times, they have disappointed. Washington isn’t what they used to be, and their sites should be set for 2019 when Jacob Eason is under center.

Underrated

#4 Notre Dame

The Irish may actually be the second best team in the country. They have looked even better with Ian Book under center, and their win over Michigan keeps getting better and better.

This Week’s Top 25 Matchups

#6 Michigan at #24 Michigan St.

#16 NC State at #3 Clemson

#22 Mississippi St. at #5 LSU

#12 Oregon at #25 Washington St.

Upset Alert

Last week, I correctly called Oregon over Washington.

This week, as much as I think LSU may have a let down against Mississippi St., I’m going against the Ducks and saying Washington St. will beat them in Pullman.

Around the SEC

Happy Friday, Dawg Nation! I would imagine an abnormally large portion of y’all will be reading this from the state of Louisiana as we takeover yet another road game. I hope to see some of y’all in Baton Rouge or celebrating in New Orleans Saturday night.

As we migrate from Bourbon Street on Broad to the actual Bourbon Street, let’s catch up on everything else going on around the league before the games begin.

Here’s what’s happening around the SEC:

  • Alabama has retaken the no.1 recruiting composite ranking on 247 Sports. We’ll see if they end up there when all is said and done.
  • Former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant has scheduled a visit to Arkansas. The Chad Morris connection could lure Bryant to the Razorbacks for his final season.
  • In more Arkansas news, the Razorbacks and Oklahoma State Cowboys have agreed to a home-and-home series. Arkansas will travel to Stillwater in 2024, with the Cowboys returning the favor in 2027.
  • Former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has landed a job as the offensive coordinator for the Arizona AAF team. It’s only a matter of time before he lands a college head coaching job once again, and possibly even sooner if Louisville cans Bobby Petrino this offseason.
  • Auburn RT Jack Driscoll could return to the starting lineup after being injured in Auburn’s loss last week to Mississippi State.
  • South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp has given the starting job back to a healthy Jake Bentley, but it appears that the door isn’t shut on Michael Scarnecchia, who played well last week against Missouri. We’ll see how the Gamecocks respond to Bentley being back in the starting lineup.

Until next time… GEAUX DAWGS!!!

Around the SEC

It’s LSU week! I don’t know about y’all, but I for one am ready for some crawfish, gumbo, and a quality road win for the Dawgs.

Before we migrate to the Pelican State, let’s take a look at some headlines across the league.

Here’s what’s happening around the SEC:

  • With Hurricane Michael barreling towards the Gulf Coast, Auburn is not expecting it to affect football operations and are preparing to play Tennessee on Saturday as scheduled.
  • South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley is back at practice and is likely to start this weekend when the Gamecocks take on Texas A&M.
  • Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is running away with the Heisman. His stats thus far this season are among the best six game stretches we’ve ever seen.
  • The nation’s number one tight end recruit, Hudson Henry (brother of Hunter Henry), has announced a commitment date of Thursday, October 11th. The Arkansas native is seriously considering the Razorbacks, which would be major signing for new coach Chad Morris.

Until next time… GO DAWGS!!!

Georgia Overview

Georgia took care of business against Vanderbilt, defeating the Commodores 41-13 on Homecoming. The win kept UGA at #2 in the polls before their showdown with LSU this weekend in Baton Rouge.

Movers

Fell Out: #14 Stanford, #20 Michigan State, #24 Virginia Tech, #25 Oklahoma State

Newcomers: #22 Texas A&M, #23 USF, #24 Mississippi State, #25 Cincinnati

Overrated

#9 Texas

I don’t want to rain on Texas’ parade too much after their thrilling 48-45 win over Oklahoma on Saturday, but the Longhorns received too big of a bump in the latest polls.

Underrated

#15 Wisconsin

After a dreadful loss to BYU early in the season, everyone buried the Badgers and rightfully so. However, Wisconsin is still a quality team and will have an opportunity to flex this weekend at Michigan.

This Week’s Top 25 Matchups

#2 Georgia at #13 LSU

#7 Washington at #17 Oregon

#15 Wisconsin at #12 Michigan

Upset Alert

Last week, I continued my losing streak by picking Kentucky over Texas A&M.

This week, I’m taking Oregon to beat Washington at home in Eugene.

Around the SEC

Happy Friday, Dawg Nation! Before Homecoming and a juicy slate of games this weekend, let’s check-in on the other 13 teams in the league.

Here’s what’s happening around the SEC:

  • Alabama Coach Nick Saban has criticized the Alabama students for showing lackluster support after their game against Louisiana-Lafayette. This is extremely on-brand and wouldn’t expect anything different.
  • Florida released an equipment damage report after their equipment truck caught fire last weekend. Luckily there were no major injuries due to this,
  • South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley is not expected to start Saturday against Missouri due to a sprained knee. Backup Michael Scarnecchia is expected to get the nod.
  • LSU is planning on redshirting quarterback Myles Brennan, granting him an extra year of eligibility for the Tigers.
  • Texas A&M hosts Kentucky this weekend in College Station that has brought back the story of Bear Bryant leaving the Wildcats for the Aggies.

Until next time… GO DAWGS!!!
