Florida Gators softball preview for the Aquafina Invitational

The No. 1 ranked Florida Gators softball team began the season with a perfect weekend in Tampa followed by a midweek win against Jacksonville.

The Gators take their perfect 6-0 record into their home opener this weekend when they host the Aquafina Invitational tournament.

This weekend the Gators will play five games in three days against four different teams in Gainesville. Despite none of them being ranked, the Gators competition will still be tough.

Joining Florida in Gainesville will be Northwestern State, Maryland, FIU and Florida A&M.

Two shutouts push Florida Gators softball past LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida (32-1/7-1 SEC) softball team swept a Friday doubleheader against Southeastern Conference rival No. 7 LSU (26-7/3-5 SEC) with two shutout wins at Tiger Park. Florida scored six runs in the doubleheader, taking Game 1 by a 3-0 score before clinching the holiday weekend series with a 3-0 (nine innings) victory.

Tiger Park held an LSU-record 3,242 fans on Friday.

Friday night will bring about an odd feeling for Tim Walton when he turns in the Florida Gators softball lineup card for their first game in Tampa, Florida.

Women’s College World Series Preview

The Florida Gators head back to the Women’s College World Series to defend their title and they do so with a perfect 5-0 record this postseason and are fresh off of a perfect two-game sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend in the Super Regionals.

Florida is one of five SEC teams in the College World Series and the Gators are in a bracket with all SEC teams.
